Why Akra
THE ORIGINS OF THE NAME, BETWEEN PAST AND FUTURE
Akra (from the ancient Greek summit, peak) indicates the highest point of a place, the highest part of a city, but also its pulsating center of life. Think of the Greek acropolis akros (ἄalto), polis (city), which from the elevated position fulfilled the defensive, religious and political role. The peak embraces the horizon with a broad gaze. The peak is symbolically closer to spirituality and transcendence. The peak requires deeper roots. Akra is also the ancient name of the city of Acre: four letters that indicate, with the brevity and strength typical of the classical Greek language, not only the geographical location of the place, but also the territorial characteristics and its distinctive features. So the etymology of a word becomes “etymology of a place” and the sound becomes form.
White Akra
CalabriaN IGT

Great wine knows how to convey the spirit of a place, evoke its scents and characteristics, with harmony and kindness. Thus Akra Bianco, in addition to appearing on our tables with a sunny and elegant appearance, immediately reflects, from the first glass, the scents of the vineyards of Santa Venere, in Castrovillari, surrounded by orchards (citrus, peaches…) that we incredibly also taste in the wine. The loose and nutrient-rich soils, the wise balance of Moscato grapes, a delicate oenology give a wine with an inebriating but elegant scent, a fresh, juicy body, with the right inviting flavor. The vinification in steel preserves the original characteristics of the original grapes intact.

Red Akra
Terre di Cosenza Aglianico DOC
Akra’s first red is a truly captivating wine. It conveys the warmth of these lands in its robust body, but with the gentleness and freshness of the winds that blow from Sila and Pollino and surround the vineyards in Santa Venere. It is a young, jovial, juicy wine, with aromas of small fresh fruits (raspberry, blackberry) and light spicy notes, of black pepper, typical of the Aglianico grape. A respectful vinification, with moderate extraction and fermentation in steel, gives a glass with a beautiful bright ruby color. The consistency of the fruit, given by the low yields per hectare and the perfect ripening that is obtained in the light of the Mediterranean, gives a rich but brilliant palate, with a decisive and very silky tannin that accompanies us to the finish of delicate fruit and spices.
